The OC Lions Foundation is proud to have supported Team Sri Lanka in the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup Cricket for the Blind 2025—a landmark event that marked a major step forward for inclusivity in international sports.
The tournament, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka,
featured six participating nations and showcased exceptional talent,
determination, and sportsmanship. Team India emerged undefeated, winning
the championship in the final held on November 23, 2025, in Sri Lanka.
OC Lions Foundation’s Contribution to Team Sri Lanka
In partnership with the Sri Lanka Cricket Association of
the Visually Handicapped, OC Lions Foundation provided essential support
valued at approximately SLR 3 million, including:
- Team
uniforms and footwear
- Travel
clothing and footwear
- Travel
bags and training costs.
This contribution aimed to empower and uplift Sri Lanka’s
visually impaired women athletes as they competed on the world stage.
Sri Lanka’s Performance
Team Sri Lanka delivered a commendable performance
throughout the tournament, finishing fourth overall with 4 points. Their
participation played an important role in inspiring many young visually
impaired women across the nation to explore the sport.
A Milestone for Blind Women’s Cricket
This historic event not only showcased international talent
but also significantly advanced the visibility of blind women’s cricket in Sri
Lanka. The sport follows specialized rules, including the use of a uniquely
designed audible ball and classification of players based on visual impairment
categories (B1, B2, B3).
The successful hosting of the tournament—and the
enthusiastic participation of Team Sri Lanka—marks a promising beginning for
the continued growth of blind cricket in the region.
