The Orange County Lions Club (OC Lions) has successfully completed another impactful community service project, bringing essential sanitation facilities to preschool children in the Ella Ihala Municipal Council area of Sri Lanka.
Before this project, the preschool operated without restroom facilities, creating significant challenges for both students and staff. Young children attending the preschool had no access to proper sanitation and, during emergencies, were often forced to use restroom facilities at neighboring residences.
Recognizing the urgent need, Heranya Wikkramarathna, an Advisory Board Member of OC Lions, identified the project and worked closely with local stakeholders to address this critical issue. Through the support and commitment of OC Lions, a safe and hygienic bathroom facility was planned and constructed for the preschool.
The project was successfully completed in November 2025 at a cost of SLR 500,000 (approximately USD 1,700), demonstrating how a relatively small investment can make a meaningful and lasting impact on a community.
The new facility provides preschool children with access to clean, safe, and dignified sanitation, helping to create a healthier learning environment while supporting their well-being and development.
This project reflects OC Lions’ ongoing commitment to improving the lives of underserved communities through practical, sustainable solutions. By addressing basic needs such as sanitation, OC Lions continues to make a positive difference in the lives of children and families both locally and internationally.
